US Treasury unit blocks nearly $2 billion in cyber fraud proceeds

The US Treasury’s financial intelligence unit has helped block nearly $2 billion in stolen proceeds linked to cyber-enabled fraud affecting more than 5,700 American individuals and businesses, its director told lawmakers. Andrea Gacki, director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, said the agency’s Rapid Response Programme works with US law enforcement and foreign partners to recover money sent overseas and return it to victims.

Bihar expands Goonda Act to cover paper leaks, cyber offences

In a major step to curb paper leaks, the Bihar cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to invoke the Goonda Act against those accused in question paper leak cases. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. As part of the move, the government approved amendments to the Bihar Crime Control Act (CCA), 2024, to bring competitive examination paper leaks under its ambit, alongside provisions targeting cyber criminals and social media offenders.

Two Women from Uttarakhand Arrested in ₹3 Lakh Cyber Fraud Case

The Sendhwa City Police and Cyber Cell in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district have arrested two women from Uttarakhand in connection with an alleged ₹3 lakh cyber fraud in which a chartered accountant (CA) was deceived through an online matrimonial platform. According to police, the fraudsters posed as a UK-based prospective groom, gained the victim’s trust by promising expensive gifts, and later demanded money in the name of courier charges and customs duty.

Hyderabad police name Google India ”Head” as co-accused in three cyber fraud cases

The Cyber Crime Police here has named the “Head of Google in India” as a co-accused in three cyber fraud cases in which the complainants alleged that fraudsters cheated them in the name of high returns to their investments, by making them download “fake” apps from Google Play Store. The complainants alleged that they downloaded the fraudulent trading applications, believing them to be genuine and trustworthy because they were available in Google Play Store.
