Gujarat CID busts pan-India cyber fraud network linked to Rs 250 crore transactions; 19 arrested

The Gujarat Cyber Centre of Excellence of CID Crime has dismantled a sprawling interstate cyber fraud network under ‘Operation Mule Hunt 2.0’, arresting 19 accused linked to 146 cybercrime cases registered across 21 States. Investigators said the syndicate routed suspicious financial transactions exceeding Rs 250 crore through fake and rented bank accounts, exposing the scale of a highly organised cybercrime ecosystem, with links extending from Gujarat to Dubai.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday issued a public advisory warning people against fraudulent scholarship schemes being used by cybercriminals to deceive unsuspecting individuals, steal sensitive information and misuse bank accounts for illegal financial transactions. According to the advisory, fraudsters lure victims by offering fake scholarships and financial assistance, persuading them to share personal information or open bank accounts.

Fake PNB Credit Card Offer on Facebook Ends in ₹7.80 Lakh Cyber Fraud

A 69-year-old resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly lost ₹7.80 lakh in a cyber fraud after responding to a purported Punjab National Bank (PNB) credit card advertisement on Facebook. According to the complaint, fraudsters posing as bank representatives contacted the victim via WhatsApp, convinced him to complete a credit card application, and obtained sensitive banking information. The stolen credentials were then used to transfer funds from his bank accounts through internet banking.

Ghazipur Police Crack ₹2.55 Crore Task Fraud and Mule Account Ring Under Cy-Vajra Drive

Ghazipur Police have dismantled an organised cyber fraud network and arrested seven accused as part of Uttar Pradesh’s statewide “Cy-Vajra” anti-cybercrime campaign. Preliminary investigation has linked the network to more than 20 cyber fraud complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, with suspicious financial transactions traced so far totalling approximately ₹2.55 crore.

The Cyber Centre of Excellence of the Gujarat CID Crime has arrested three more people in connection with the alleged hacking of The Bhavnagar District Co-operative Bank Limited, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10. According to investigators, the cybercrime syndicate allegedly breached a vulnerability in the bank’s Core Banking System (CBS) software and siphoned off Rs 7.34 crore through a sophisticated digital fraud.

A Russian man whom U.S. prosecutors say previously worked for Russia’s ‌FSB intelligence agency pleaded not guilty on Thursday to a charge that he participated in a cyber espionage campaign that a technology company conducted against Western organizations. Denis Obrezko, who was extradited last month from Thailand following his arrest there in November, pleaded not guilty during ​a brief virtual hearing before a federal magistrate judge in Boston after being indicted earlier this ​week
